Sef Hill (Pianist)

Sef is a highly experienced pianist and accompanist having performed in many
of London's prestigious venues including the Royal Opera House, Barbican Theatre, Sadler's Wells Theatre
and Wigmore Hall as well as venues throughout the rest of the U.K. and Europe.
He studied piano and singing at the Royal College of Music where he won the
Kaye Wheeler prize for piano accompaniment and was selected as accompanist for a masterclass with
Dame Gwyneth Jones. On leaving the R.C.M. he chose to work in musical theatre - credits include Me
and My Girl (West End), assistant musical director for regional productions of Lady Be Good (with
award winning film and theatre director Stephen Daldry C.B.E.), My Fair Lady, Wizard of Oz, Bertie,
national tours of Evita, Kiss Me Kate and musical director for Slice of Saturday Night. He previously
collaborated with Ian MacDonald on a series of independent cabaret productions as musical director and arranger.
Sef is now also in much demand as a ballet pianist. He has worked with Birmingham
Royal Ballet and has played for classes at the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet School. Contemporary
ballet companies he has accompanied include Matthew Bourne's productions of Swan Lake and Dorian Gray, Ballet
Rambert, Michael Clark Company, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
Ian MacDonald (Tutor)
MSc. (Voice Pathology); ARCM; Dip.RCM; ALCM
Ian has twenty years experience as a voice professional both as a performer and coach. He studied at the Royal College
of Music with Edward Brooks and Robert Sutherland (international coach and pianist for Maria Callas) and recently gained his MSc in Voice Pathology
from University College London.
For the past ten years he has been a specialist voice coach and consultant for The British Association for Performing Arts
Medicine as well as visiting lecturer and coach for The Central School of Speech and Drama, Mountview Academy of Performing Arts, Hertfordshire
University and Arts Educational Schools. Some of his clients have included the elite, such as Jonathan Robyns (Avenue Q, Miss Saigon), Philip Barley
(The Rat Pack, Beauty and the Beast), Francesca Jackson (I’d Do Anything – Search for a Nancy, Rent, Tonight’s the Night) and Connie Fisher (Sound
of Music).
He has performed throughout Europe as recitalist and soloist and has been lucky enough to work on innovative performance
projects in Zurich and Montreaux with Benjamin Zander (musical director of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra) and Tony Buzan (inventor of the Mind
Map, best selling writer and educational consultant) amongst others. As founder member of two progressive art house companies he premiered a number
of lead roles in operas such as Dr. Stirling in Ocean (The Minema; BAC); Adonis in Venus (Hackney Empire) and Ringmaster in Sons of the Wheel (The
Playhouse Theatre).
Ian is a member of the British Voice Association, The British Association for Performing Arts Medicine and the Musicians
Union.
